Have a speeding problem in your neighborhood? The University Place Police have established a Citizen Radar Program in partnership with the citizens of University Place to help "keep the speed" in our city.
Participants must reside in University Place and have a valid Washington State Driver's License (indicating University Place address) to participate.
Applicants will not be accepted if they have any felony conviction, any obstructing conviction, a D.U.I. within the last two years, or any assault conviction (subject to Department discretion).
Citizens participate in an hour-long training course conducted by a University Place Police Officer. During this training, participants learn how to operate police radar equipment. After citizens have completed this course, they are invited to check out radar equipment and monitor speeds in University Place by recording speeds and corresponding license plate numbers. A warning letter is generated from the University Place Police to the registered owner of each speeding vehicle.
This program works! It is an effective way to create an awareness on your street. If you are interested in participating please call Jennifer Hales, Crime Prevention Specialist, at (253) 798-3141.
